Anxiety

When body and mind stay in near-constant alert

Anxiety does not always look the same: it may show up as overload, insomnia, anticipation, hypervigilance, inner pressure or the feeling that you can never truly switch off.

How it often feels

Sometimes anxiety is not felt as “nerves”, but in many other ways

It may be present even if, from the outside, you still keep working and functioning. That is often why it takes so long to be looked at properly.

Your body stays tense most of the time

Palpitations, chest pressure, insomnia, never fully winding down or the exhaustion of always being “on”.

Your mind is always anticipating

Need for control, repetitive thinking, constant worry and difficulty trusting that something may turn out well.

You feel like you live on the defensive

You startle easily, struggle to relax and even small changes disorganise you more than you would like.

What can be worked on in therapy

  • Identify triggers and activation patterns.
  • Understand what is maintaining anxiety in your case.
  • Recover more calm, focus and sense of control.

When it may make sense to seek support

You do not need to wait until you are completely overwhelmed before working on anxiety. The sooner it is understood, the sooner it stops setting the rhythm of everything.

  • If everything seems to demand more energy than it should.
  • If resting no longer gives you real calm.
  • If you feel you have been in constant alert or self-containment for too long.
